Fatima is a strategist, storyteller, and systems thinker committed to equity, access, and impact.
Fatima Mabrouk is a PhD candidate at NYU’s Silver School of Social Work, where she is an NYU Urban Doctoral Fellow and a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) Doctoral Minority Fellow. Her research interrogates how structural violence—including racism (e.g., racial microaggressions), and exclusionary organizational practices—shapes the psychological well-being and professional trajectories of Black women professionals. Through this work, she seeks to reimagine organizational cultures and policies that foster equity, inclusion, and psychological safety. An educator and equity advocate, Fatima has taught at NYU, Hunter College, Simmons University, and Columbia University, offering courses on mental health, social welfare policy, workplace discrimination, and institutional equity. She brings to the classroom an interdisciplinary approach that integrates theories, social work practice, and community-based research. At NYU, she also serves as a Peer Advocate and Consultant in the Office of Social and Inclusion, supporting students and faculty of color through strategic programming and advocacy. Nationally, Fatima represented doctoral students as the Student Director-at-Large for the Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR) and is the current co-chairs of the Task Force to Safeguard Social Work Research and Wings at SSWR. Her leadership has been recognized with the CUNY Women’s Recognition Award and NYU’s Community Impact Award. Guided by an ethic of care and justice, she is deeply committed to using research as a vehicle for institutional change and to advancing racial equity within social work education, research, and practice.
